Time In History
The Town Of Camak, Georgia was incorporated December 22, 1898. The town was named for a lawyer,James A. Camak, who was the Frist President of the Georgia Railroad. Camak is the junction for the railroad leading to Savannah, Atlanta, Macon, and Augusta. The town is 45 miles west of Augusta and 110 miles east of Atlanta. In the early days, Camak had a Drug Store, Bank, Hotel, Blacksmith Shop, Skating Rink, and Two Schools. The Old Railroad Depot has been remodeled and is owned and being used by CSX Railroad. Camak was such a boom town, that at one time, it was thought that Camak was to be the County Seat for Warren County.
Today, the Railroad, a Rock Quarry and a Lumber Yard are the main industries. It remains a guiet little town of friendly people with many tales of the past to be told and enjoyed, for all that want to hear.
So come and join us, as we bring some of the past to the future!
